The plan was loose. Three days, a rough route along the ridge, and enough space to change direction if the weather asked for it.
Day one the clouds stayed below 1800m. We walked above them for most of the morning, looking down at a white floor that covered the valleys and everything familiar in them. It's a strange feeling, being above the weather. Like the world has been put on pause.
We stopped at a hut on the second night. The owner had been running it for 22 years. He said the route we'd taken wasn't marked on any map. We believed him.
On the third day the clouds lifted and the valley came back. We descended slowly. There was no reason to rush.
This is what Peak & Pine is built for. Not the achievement, but the hours it takes to get there and back. The ones that don't make the highlight reel but stay with you longest.
